This weekend I was out and about when I got stopped by someone to chat and during our conversation they asked me why I had a trainer when it seemed like I had enough motivation to keep going on my own. This lead me to my blog topic for the week and I think this is honestly one of the easiest things for me to talk about because I would recommend to everyone that they have a trainer. First of all I do understand that not everyone can afford to have a trainer. However, think of all the money you blow going out to eat all the time, going to happy hour, buying a coffee everyday or even stopping at the store to grab something. All these things add up and I’m not even going to mention all the calories you’re wracking up! This is how I compare the cost, for me, I think I’m actually saving money!
Before I met my trainer, Vinnie Van Wyk, I never really worked out with anyone like that before. I did meet with one trainer a few years ago but I remember being very uncomfortable so I think finding the right person to train you is definitely important. Mike Koch, the member services guy in Wenatchee, set me up with Vinnie because he thought he’d be the best person to train me for my upcoming half-marathon. The very first time I worked out with Vinnie I remember laughing through our entire work out and I just couldn’t believe he made me do push-ups even after I told him I couldn’t! Come to find out, I can do a few! I tell him all the time that he is my bff because when it really comes down to my motivation it all points back to him. I do have a lot of motivation on my own and never wanting to weigh 281 pounds again is always in the back of my head, but my trainer is always there to give me that extra kick. He pushes me to an extreme I never thought I’d be able to handle and he is always testing my endurance. I never really know what’s going to be thrown my direction which keeps me coming to the gym the rest of the week because I know I need to be able to keep up with whatever his plans are. Also, one thing I know he does that makes me work way harder is telling me he is timing me. It puts this fierce competition feeling in me and I HAVE to beat my time before that. It kills me and I love it.
Since I’ve met Vinnie I feel like I’ve become a completely different person at the gym. I’m stronger now than I ever was before and I’m smaller than I ever have been my entire life. He helps me with my work outs but he also keeps me going with my diet. I’ve done more things possible with him than I ever realized I was even capable of doing. For example I have this one guy at the gym that Vinnie calls “The machine” and I am determined to keep up with that man! Currently, we are tied on the stair stepper with 132 floors in 20 minutes. I’m also preparing for my next run so we’re doing a lot of endurance training right now but I know I’ll be able to finish that run with no problem, thanks to Vinnie! Working out with a trainer was something I never thought I’d enjoy before but now that I have, I never want to give it up.
The thing I love the very most about not just my trainer but, all the trainers at Gold’s that I’ve met is that they genuinely care if you’re meeting your goals or not. To me that just proves how amazing our gym is once again!

Nice blog Jess! I agree about Vinnie as a trainer, he's great, he takes us to a whole nother level of fitness. You just gave me a new goal I only did 120 floors on the Stairmaster in 20 min. Darn! I have a new goal now, thanks
